Police stated they were alerted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important representative stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
